Punglwa lift inter-state Sainik Schools’ sports and cultural meet

The inter-state Group Level All India Sainik Schools National Games (AISSNG) 2023 which began on July 25 concluded on Friday at Sainik School Punglwa.
The closing ceremony was graced by group commander, group headquarter NCC Kohima, brig PS Sangwan, as the chief guest and head of department, College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry, Jalukie, Dr. Arun Kumar Sangwan, as the guest of honour who on their arrival were received by officiating principal Sainik School Punglwa, Lt col Leena Bajaj.
In the meet, four Sainik Schools of North East regions namely Sainik School Goalpara (Assam), Chhingchhip (Mizoram), East Siang (Arunachal Pradesh) and Punglwa (Nagaland) participated where basketball, volleyball, athletics, literary and cultural competitions were held.
Sainik School Goalpara, Sainik School Chhingchhip and Sainik School East Siang were the champions in volleyball, basketball and athletics respectively. The overall championship trophy was lifted by Sainik School Punglwa, Nagaland who also bagged the first position in athletics, Hindi debate and quiz competition. Sainik School Goalpara and Sainik School Chhingchhip finished second and third respectively. The discipline trophy also went to Sainik School Chhingchhip.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, the chief guest congratulated the winners and encouraged those who could not make it through his inspirational and motivational speech. He urged cadets not to be disheartened because participation is more important than winning as it leads to learning. He also highlighted the virtue of determination. Brig PS Sangwan also expressed his joy of seeing the girl cadets being part of the meet for the first time and the discipline with which every team conducted themselves.
Earlier, the chief guest felicitated the participants with the medals and trophies.
The cultural programme on the eve of the closing ceremony was presided over by host of dignitaries from varied arena who all appreciated the efforts of the participating schools for their fantabulous performances.
The programme ended with a vote of thanks by the officiating principal.
