Against the backdrop of the Manipur violence, Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) has called for preserving the power of restraint and, above everything else, keep the faith in God, to demonstrate and practice the way of peace and goodwill in the midst of hatred and violence.
In a statement, FNR declared that it, along with Naga church and CSOs, would remain alert of any Naga political groups, organisations, and individuals not complying to the call.
FNR appealed to all bodies and individuals concerned to be beacons of peace in such a time as this.
The Forum also called upon all to consciously think and accept the pain of the historical moment, and give way to peace and goodwill. In the Northeast, it stressed that people could be liberated through peace and goodwill, adding “This is our hope for a tormented humanity caged in by its own makings.”
Referring to “A Call to Goodwill” published on July 29 this year, along with apex Naga church bodies and Naga civil society organisations, FNR reiterated that Nagas should deeply reflect on the foreseeable impact of current events in Manipur “on our land and society”.
The forum emphasised that Naga people in the broadest sense must vigilantly guard against playing any role of erecting walls on their own. It mentioned that Nagas should resolve to abstain from succumbing to hatred and innuendos of any kind.
“We will remain clear and free of violence through written words, myth making, propagating falsehoods, discriminating against specific people groups, or the causing of physical harm. It is our moral responsibility that these acts are not be entertained in Naga areas,” the statement added.
