Govt accord top priority to education: Jacob Zhimomi

Minister of Public Health Engineering Department (PHED)and Cooperation, Jacob Zhimomi on Saturday said state government has accorded top priority in education sector and was working towards upgrading the infrastructures of the schools and colleges in the state.

Jacob was speaking at the 50 years celebration of Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Diphupar-A, Chumoukedima held at Diphupar public ground.


He said the state government was putting more effort to ensure that students receive quality education by employing qualified teachers to improve the quality of teaching in the state.
Jacob also spoke on the National Education Policy (NEP), and informed that it was in the process of implementation, and for which there was discussion on engaging experience people from various fields including social organizations to make them part of the new education system.


The minister said to bridge the gap, provision has also been created to bring all the drop out back to the education system and experienced people from various diverse subjects have been integrated so that every person irrespective of culture, religion and race etc. receive education.
Jacob said that government of India has adopted the NEP, as it wanted to make India a knowledge based society and with that motto, state government will also be implementing the education policy.


Jacob also congratulated the school on reaching the mile stone and lauded the pioneers for their hard work and sacrifices. The minister said that since the inception of statehood in 1963, most of the children acquired knowledge and education from Government Schools and termed it as a “privilege” and “opportunity” for some section of the people. He assured to extend his contribution and explore possibilities to ensure that GHSS Diphupar-A also received the immediate requirements.


Exhorting the gathering, director of School Education, Wothungo Tsopoe congratulated the principal and the staff for the tireless effort. He lauded the support the school have received from the stakeholders, council members and students union for their contribution by working as backbone of the school.
He pointed out that GHSS Diphupar has set a good example, as there has been tremendous improvement in enrollment especially in higher classes.


The director also called for community participation and with the involvement of community, education process and quality in schools can be improved.
Short speeches were delivered by Diphupar Naga Students Union (DNSU) president Lenisang K Jamir and Diphupar Village Council (DVC) chairman Ghuzui Shohe.


Highlights of the programme include unveiling of jubilee monolith and release of jubilee souvenir by the chief guest, dedicatory prayer by Sumi Baptist Church, Diphupar-A associate pastor Jacob Achumi.
Earlier, the programme began with an invocation by Angami Baptist Church Diphupar associate pastor Sodi Kenna-O, welcome address by GHSS Diphupar-A principal C Henow Phom, acknowledgement by Diphupar A GHSS vice principal Konthunglo Ngullie and prayer for the pioneers was offered by Lotha Baptist church, Diphupar women pastor Yanpvulo J Ovung.


Song was presented by jubilee choir and special appearance by GHSS Diphupar-A self defence girls club. Later, vote of thanks was delivered by jubilee planning convenor Chubatemjen and benediction by Tangkhul Baptist Church Diphupar pastor, Dr. Yurieshang Phungshok
