Naga Council Dimapur lauds police for nabbing drug trafficker

Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) has lauded Nagaland Police along with its Arunachal Pradesh and West Bengal counterparts for apprehending drug trafficker Mohammad Hassan Uddin alias Hassan Mamu, son of Tamiji Uddin and a resident of Dimapur, from Arunachal Pradesh.
The council also commended the recent arrest of another drug trafficker Bahar Uddin, a resident of Dimapur, by Nagaland Police
Pointing out that the NCD had always been vigilant against reports of free availability and use of illicit drugs, especially among the youth and even among the school and college-going students in Dimapur, NCD president Etsungmomo Kikon and general secretary LK Peter Anal in a press release said that, fearing drug menace and with concern for the lives of youths, they had been appealing time and again in social media to drug users and cartels/peddlers to say no to drugs.
NCD, however, lamented that their appeal went heedless as the kingpins of drug cartels/businessmen had established drug business clandestinely in Dimapur.
The council reminded all Dimapur-based tribal hohos, community leaders and civil society organisations (CSOs) of the joint consultative meeting held on November 30, 2022 at Tourist Lodge.
NCD said the meeting unanimously resolved that authorities of every community, CSOs and tribal hohos should see that their members did not indulge in any illicit business (including drugs and liquor), multiple taxation, coercive extortion/donations, syndicating Dimapur market, etc.
NCD noted that besides maintaining law and order in the state, Nagaland Police had formulated holistic strategies to contain and eradicate drugs trafficking in the state for the safety and well-being of the youths.
Towards this end, NCD said the strategies so formulated had been implemented effectively in spirit and principle by the police under the efficient leadership of director general of police (DGP) Rupin Sharma.
This was evident in the arrest of two kingpins of drug trafficking who were operating in the state and the north-eastern region, the council said.
They acknowledged and appreciated DGP and commissioner of police, Dimapur Kevithuto Sophie, for apprehending the dangerous drug peddlers with concerted efforts and supervision.
NCD appealed to all leaders of different communities in Dimapur to remind members and citizens of their respective communities about the resolutions to make Dimapur a well-groomed place to live in and its people as law-abiding people.
Meanwhile, the council also extended appreciation to Muslim Council Dimapur for initiating necessary action against its member Bahar Uddin for drug trafficking in Dimapur.
