Students with disabilities receive Table Tennis equipment in Wokha
August 3, 2024 | by admin
District Sports Council Wokha distributed table tennis equipment to students with disabilities at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School (DBHSS) Wokha on Friday. The initiative, spearheaded by District Resource Officer Libemo K. Jami, aims to provide equal sports opportunities for children with special needs, who often lack access to such activities.
Jami emphasized that students with disabilities are frequently overlooked in sports. He noted that some parents are hesitant to allow their children to participate due to concerns about physical limitations, and the students themselves are often reluctant. Table tennis was chosen specifically because it requires minimal physical exertion, making it more accessible.
The equipment and logistics were provided to DBHSS Wokha, which will facilitate the initiative. The school plans to make the facilities available to all students in and around Wokha town, with a particular focus on those with special needs.
Jami further stated that basic training and workshops will be conducted before moving on to more advanced sessions. The progress of the participants will be closely monitored, with the long-term goal of preparing them to compete in the Paralympic Games.
