Nagaland: Organizations flay Oct 10 abduction of two individuals

Several organizations have condemned the abduction of two individuals on October 10 by, calling for swift justice and action by authorities to apprehend the perpetrators.


ASTD: Ao Senso Telongjem Dimapur outrightly condemned the abduction of two youths, members of Ao Youth Forum Diphupar and Foothill Ao Youth Organisation, from Diphupar, and extortion demand made by a Naga political group. ASTD president Ningsangwaba Pongen and secretary K. Tsukti Longchart said such practices have been affecting individuals and businesses within the community. They urged law enforcement agencies to intensify efforts to arrest the culprits and take necessary action as per the law.


The union said that they would not tolerate such heinous act and asserted that justice would be pursued vigorously to ensure accountability and deter such offences in the future.


DLST: Dimapur Langpangkong Senso Telungjem (DLST) strongly condemned the abduction of two bonafide members from the Living Water Packaged Drinking Water firm on October 10 by certain miscreants. DLST president C. Yabang Pongen and general secretary Dr. Sendongyanger urged authorities to take stringent action against the culprits before the situation worsens. They also expressed support for the united stand of DAYO, DAYO (Diphupar), AYDF, FAYO against anti-social elements.


AKTD: Ao Kaketshir Telongjem Diphupar (AKTD) president Akumienba Pongen and general secretary Imtinaro vehemently condemned the abduction of two community members. They expressed outrage over the cowardly act, which has instilled fear and anxiety among their members. AKTD demanded a thorough and impartial investigation into the abduction, calling it a blatant violation of human rights and personal liberty that requires serious condemnation.


TYOD: Tenyimi Youth Organization Dimapur (TYOD) strongly condemned the abduction of two Ao Naga youths, residents of Diphupar, by a Naga political group on October 10 for ransom. TYOD stated that they will no longer remain mute spectators to such inhuman acts against innocent Nagas. They expressed solidarity with the Diphupar Ao Youth and other Naga youth bodies in their fight for justice, calling on law enforcement agencies to ensure the culprits are booked and justice is served swiftly.


CALT: Chümoukedima Ao Lanur Telongjem (CALT) unequivocally condemned the abduction of the two bonafide members of Ao Youth Forum Diphupar on October 10 by a Naga political group. CALT stated that the act is a stark violation of fundamental human rights and unacceptable in a society that values human dignity and the rule of law. They demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of the culprits as per the law.

MTLT: Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem (MTLT) has strongly condemned the abduction of two handymen of Chümoukedima-based ‘Living Water’ packaged drinking water on October 10, and the subsequent extortion demand from the same business owner by a certain Naga political group.


MTLT president Imnaonen Pongen and general secretary Moarenba Ozukum in a press release declared that they stood in solidarity with different youth organisations of Diphupar and Chümoukedima who had already expressed their outrage and condemnation against such anti-social activities.


They said they also took strong note that the two abducted persons/handymen were bona fide Ao Naga citizens, asserting that such abductions with apparent sinister designs could not be tolerated at any cost.


Noting that Dimapur and Chümoukedima were important commercial hubs of Nagaland, they said every Naga tribe had been coexisting harmoniously thus far despite the ongoing unsolved Indo-Naga political issue.


At such a time, when the Naga youth were slowly exploring different ways and means to earn an honest living by engaging in different activities, they maintained that the actions of certain anti-social elements were greatly undermining and vitiating the peaceful environment of the society.


They stressed that such abduction and extortion demand greatly undermined even the noble Naga political issue, posing a grave danger to the peace and livelihood of innocent citizens.


Urging the authorities concerned, particularly the law enforcing agencies, to be more vigilant and ensure that such incidents were thwarted before they occurred, the MTLT leaders demanded that the police expedite the case and nab the culprits at the earliest.
They said they were ever ready to extend all support to fellow Naga youth in safeguarding the lives and properties of fellow citizens.
