Nagaland: Department of Soil & Water Conservation organizes social night

Department of Soil & Water Conservation organized a social night on October 13 at Niathu Resort, Chümoukedima. The program was graced by Advisor of Information & Public Relations and Soil & Water Conservation, Imkong L. Imchen.
According to DIPR report, Imchen praised the department for its significant contributions to the state’s development, celebrating over 50 years of service since its establishment in 1968. He commended the department’s efforts in promoting sustainable agriculture, water conservation, and soil management in the state.
He acknowledged the efforts of the department’s 793-member team, which included 370 ministerial and 423 technical staff, along with 106 gazetted officers. He emphasized that the department, equipped with advanced soil testing laboratories in every district, had made significant advancements in supporting farmers and agricultural workers with soil testing and resource management.
Imchen further commended the department for establishing 17 meteorological observatories across the state since 1989, creating a strong weather monitoring system essential for disaster preparedness and risk reduction amid the state’s diverse geographical challenges.
He highlighted the ongoing issues of traditional jhum cultivation, water scarcity, and soil erosion, stressing the department’s focus on these critical areas. He noted that the department’s farmer training programs had effectively promoted sustainable agriculture and watershed management throughout the state.
Imchen welcomed the department’s collaboration with the Brahmaputra Board, highlighting the importance of such partnerships in abridging development gaps and enhancing conservation efforts. Chairman, Brahmaputra Board under the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India, Dr. Ranbir Singh emphasized the importance of integrated water resources management and acknowledged the Nagaland government’s effort in promoting conservation practices aligned with national water policies. Dr. Singh also praised the proactive role of the Soil & Water Conservation department and expressed support for its initiatives in the state.
The night featured entertainment programs showcasing cultural performances that celebrated Nagaland’s rich heritage.
