Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services (AH&VS) department Wokha has received reports that there had been cases of mortality in pigs in Doyang Right Bank Farm area under Wokha district due to African Swine Fever (ASF).

ASF is a contagious disease in pigs with high mortality, which causes huge economic loses, and therefore, requires high vigilance and containment.

Therefore, the deputy commissioner (DC) Wokha, Vineet Kumar, has issued advisory for containment of the disease in order to contain the outbreak of the disease.
DC has restricted movement of pigs/pork in the infected zone (1 Km radius of the area) and prohibited slaughtering/sale of pigs/pork in the infected zone.

DC informed that the concerned authority was closely monitoring the surveillance zone (9 Km outside the infected zone).
Further, proper disposal of dead animals by deep burial or incineration within the infected zone had been advised.

All village councils have been advised to be vigilant and report any suspected cases of ASF to the nearest veterinary office/officer.
