Longsa prepares for premier harvest festival

July 25, 2016 | by admin

The premier festival of the Ao Nagas, Tsüngremmung would be celebrated at Longsa village with minister for RD & REPA, C. L John as the chief guest on August 3, 2016. The festival has been celebrated every year by the Longsa village council under the patronage of Tourism department of Nagaland.
Keeping the traditional spirit of the forefathers and the spirit of Tsüngremmung in bonding friendship and harmony among communities, the Longsa Tourism Committee has invited the Tsatanger village (Sangtam) and Sapatomi village (Sumi) to partake in the grand celebration. The two neighboring villages of Longsa have graciously consented to partake in celebration with the fellow Longsa brothers and sisters. A main attraction of the festival would be the traditional pulling of the “Shangzü” followed by singing and dancing by the partakers of the festival.
The Tsüngremmong starts on August 1 every year and it continues till the 3rd. The festivity is scheduled to start at Longsa on August 1, which is traditionally celebrated as “Süngpenmong”. The main programme will be held on August day 2 – called “Yatimong” – where a host of Longsa villagers, dignitaries and Ao community are expected to join in the festivity.
Tsüngremmung will culminate on the August 3, referred to as “Aien Lenpi” where the entire community would come together to clean the paths leading to the village, in preparation for socio-cultural interactions with the neighboring villages, like Tuensang, Zunheboto and Mokokchung after the harvest season. Longsa was declared a tourist village in 2006.
The Longsa tourism committee, under the aegis of the Longsa village council, heartily invites all to partake in the premier festival of the Ao community at Longsa and to receive blessings from God for a bountiful harvest.
