BBBP National Girl Child Week observed in Kohima, Mokokchung

Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) National Girl Child week was observed from January 21 to 25 across the state, to focus on the importance of educating and skilling the girl child. 

Kohima: District Level Centre for Women (DLCE)-Mahila Shakti Kendra (MSK), Kohima, State Resource Centre for Women (SRCW), Nagaland State Social Welfare Board (NSSWB) and department of Social Welfare celebrated BBBP national girl child week by conducting various activities. A press release by SRCW Nagaland stated that, activities conducted included Balika Manches- awareness on women centric schemes, distribution of safety kits to Angawadi and ASHA workers, distribution of masks to student union members, community education-distribution of school kits and notebooks to students and second phase baking class. All these activities were carried out to create awareness, sensitize people and engage community under the BBBP scheme.
Mokokchung: District administration and the District Level Centre for Women-Mahila Shakti Kendra under the banner of BBBP Mokokchung district visited the PwDs at Ungma village which has the record of highest PwDs in the district. A press release by DLCW-MSK Mokokchung women welfare officer, Moamenla Longkumer stated that, in order to celebrate the National Girl Child Day 2021, they were given gift hampers containing nutritional food items and sensitised on POCSO Act.
Wokha: District administration and DLCW-MSK organised BBBP week on January 23 at deputy commissioners conference hall, Wokha, attended by adolescent girls and Bharat Guides. Case worker, One Stop Centre-Sakhi, Thungbeni Kikon dwelled on the topic POSCO Act while EAC (P) Vitolu Chishi spoke on the importance of girl child and significance of the week.
Ahthibung and Heningkunglwa: Local champions were felicitated at GB’s hall Ahthibung and Heningkunglwa under BBBP Peren district. Dr. Vezhokholu Khamo, MO Ayush, PHC Ahthibung was awarded the best performing female doctor while Sorangle from New Beisumpui was awarded the best performing ASHA. Hatkholam from New Chalkot villlage was awarded the best performing AWW and Government Middle School Saijang was awarded the best Village Education Committee (VEC). Programme was chaired by district coordinator, Lungngaulie.
Chümoukedima sub-division: SBI Gram Seva programme implemented in 5 adopted villages under Chümoukedima sub-division of Dimapur district, namely, Urra, Bade, Khriezephe, Diezephe and Tsithrongse under ANMA Integrated Development Association (AIDA), Don Bosco in collaboration with the District Level Centre for Women (DLCW)-Mahila Shakti Kendra, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP), Dimapur, celebrated National Girl Child Day at the Urra Area Villages’ Union hall on January 24. 
A press release by PRO, AIDA-Don Bosco Dimapur, Lawrence Guria stated that, awareness programme was conducted on girl child rights and education and women centric schemes which was attended by about 100 participants from the five villages.
District coordinator, Arhomo C. Ngullie highlighted the workings of DLCW, Lanusangla Jamir, women welfare officer, DLCW delivered the awareness on girl child rights & education. District coordinator, Dhonthaidi Langthasa spoke on women centric schemes, Sakhi-One Stop Centre etc.
Earlier, prayer was offered by Rev. Fr. Santosh Mundu SDB, vice principal DBHSS, Dimapur, welcome speech by Rev. Fr. M. D. Varghese SDB in the programme chaired by Vethojo Lohe, educational in-charge of Gram Seva programme. Vote of thanks was proposed by Imnayangla Jamir, convergence officer of Gram Seva programme.
