Apathetic attitude of Power department field staff to public complaints was highlighted in Dimapur when telephonic calls to the Burma Camp emergency room reportedly went unheeded. The caller, Circuit House Colony member Zhevihe Sumi, told Nagaland Post that he wanted to bring to the notice of the power department about a rusted electric pole that had collapsed in the vicinity of the colony during wee hours of Thursday and exposing residents to danger.
He said that on seeing the collapsed pole, he had tried to contact the emergency room at Burma Camp since it was supposed to be looking after the colony. However the telephone line which was supposed to be manned 24 hours went without responding to calls.
Agitated over non- response, Zhevihe said he along with an SI from the East Police Station, Dimapur and some council members, went to the power house at Burma Camp, Dimapur, and found that the telephone plug was pulled out and the set kept in the control room. He also said a lady staff who was manning the duty room (emergency) supposed to execute her duties from 7 a.m. arrived only after 10.30 a.m.
He lamented that it was not the first such instance despite higher ups detailing staff to look into various complaints of consumers and public on many occasions. Zhevihe also alleged that the lower grade staffs were not executing their duties and strongly felt that a corrective measure needed to be implemented among the working staff. He also alleged that when council members tried to meet the two junior engineers present for constructive interaction, they did not pay any attention to their grievances.
Meanwhile, when contacted executive engineer (electrical division), Dimapur, Moameren, promised to take corrective steps in order to provide best of the service to the consumers. He also disclosed that a temporary arrangement of power supply to the affected colony has already been made while normal power supply would be restored by Friday.
