Assam government encouraging encroachment: MRD

July 29, 2014 | by admin

Meranger Range Dimapur (MRD) has accused the Assam government of encroaching upon the land in question with the motive to establish landless Miyas, Adivasis and Nepalis villages as vote bank.
To substantiate its claim, the Meranger Range Dimapur chairman, T Moa Longkumer, and the secretary, S Manen Pongen, recalled the meeting between Dimapur district administration and Assam counterpart in August 2010 when the DFO of Karbi Anglong declared that the area never fell under Doldoli forest but known as elephant pass. The statement claimed that the then DFO, in an act of encroachment during 2011, unilaterally erected a signboard of Doldoli Reserved Forest near Indisen village.
It also pointed out that the original Shankartilla AP post is also located just above the Lengri nullah and near IB road, adding the present Shankartilla AP post near Aoyimkum is an encroachment.
Stating that precious lives have been lost, it has urged the State government to initiate action to prevent further loss of lives and destruction to properties.
If historical facts and documentary evidences as presented in the write ups are believed to be true, it said Naga villagers are not encroachers but protectors of Nagas’ land.
It said trouble us inevitable as long as there is no proper demarcation especially around Dimapur where population is increasing day by day.
It has further urged the District administration and State Commissioner to revoke the curfew imposed in the area.
