United Tribes Association of Border Areas (UNTABA) has decided to organise people’s dialogue on border issues and inter-related issues such as influx of illegal immigrants and transfer of Naga lands sometime tentatively in the month of August. The decision to organized people’s dialogue was taken during its first executive council meeting at Unity Hall of Naga Council Dimapur on June 28.
A joint press release issued by the Association chairman Hukavi Yepthomi and the general secretary Ejangthung Lotha said the dialogue would see hosts of prominent personalities well versed with border issues and its related issues.
It made clear that UNTABA was not claiming others’ land but reclaiming our ancestral land. With the border issue still simmering, UNTABA appealed to all concerned to work towards preventing misunderstanding among the Nagas. During the meeting, the executive council also thoroughly deliberated on the Nagaland Special Development Zone (NSDZ) under initiation by the State governemnt.
Meanwhile, it informed that the vacant seats of three auditors in UNTABA was filled and approved by the house. The House also approved a 5-member finance committee.
To clear any misconception among the public, UNTABA affirmed that its aims and objective was to uphold, promote, protect and preserve the social fabric and cultural heritage of member groups and Naga villages in border areas; to foster unity, brotherhood and fraternity amongst the groups and villages recognizing one another as true and equal partners; to fight against all divisive forces that may disintegrate Naga society etc.
