Extortionist held

Dimapur police apprehended one NSCN (K) activist while he was extorting money from businessmen at Hong Kong Market area Thursday around 1 p.m. Police said the accused identified as one Athrongmong Pochury (34), a ‘Leacy’ in the NSCN (K), and presently residing at New Market, was caught while he was serving a demand note of Rs. 5 lakhs to one shop. The demand note issued by Chaplee committee, GPRN, gave November 15 as last date for payment of money. The accused also told police that he had issued a similar demand note to another shop at Hong Kong market. According to police, the modus operandi of such extortions was to first issue demand note, followed by threats and finally abduction if the shopkeeper failed to pay. Staff Reporter
