In an attempt to work out strategies in facing the prevailing landslide and mudslide problem in and around Mon town, an emergency coordination meeting of District Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) was held Thursday at the office of deputy commissioner, Mon.
The incessant rainfalls in the past week have not only hampered the movement of vehicles in the district but also have caused immense destruction to properties. She said that the administration has verified the areas affected by the landslides & mudslides in Techahan and Tanlao wards and the people were helpless and no emergency reliefs have been provided so far. In this connection, the DC directed EE (PWD) to survey the diversion of road avoiding the Yaling and Tokopatta areas as a long-term measure and submit proposal for road diversion.
She also asked the EE (PWD) to fill up the potholes within the town area with chips and also to drain away the muddy stagnant water gathered in the Mon-Namtola road so that the district was not cut off from other areas.
The DC also informed that all vehicles, JCBs, bulldozers and other machineries of the Government agencies would be seized/utilized in case emergency arises. She also urged the members to extend all cooperation and possible assistance and seek the joint effort of all.
