Pranab Vidyapith Higher Secondary School (PVHSS), Dimapur, celebrated its 28th annual day cum prize distribution function here at Pranab Jubilee Auditorium, Dimapur, Saturday.
Welcoming the gathering and also giving his brief annual report of the school, principal, Manoj Bhattacharjee, said the school came into being on January 17, 1984, with enrolment of 145 students and six teachers in the present Mandir premises under the banner ‘Hindu Milan Mandir’ and with L.C Das as headmaster in-charge.
He said the school was recognized by Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE), Kohima, in 1986 for its excellent result in the HSLC exam in 1985 where one of its students was placed in the Top 10.
Stating that the school has now been shaped into a multistoreyed building where more than 2600 students including students from nursery to class XII were receiving quality education, he further added that the school was upgraded to higher secondary level with science stream in 2000, while commerce stream was introduced to meet the growing demands of parents and guardians.
Also speaking before the students, parents and well wishers, head master of the school, L.C Das, while congratulating the teaching faculties for their commitment, also urged them not only to take their profession as a “mission” but to mould the students to be “torch bearers” of the society.
Earlier, the programme started with a universal peace prayer by the students of the school followed by garlanding to the portrait of Guru Maharaj, floral tributes to founder president, PVHSS, Swami Vijoya Nandaji Maharaj, founder secretary, late Manik Bhattacharjee, founder treasurer, late Haripada Sarkar, founder member, late K.P Nandy, member of executive committee, late Ashutosh Chakraborty, and former member, late Makhan Das. Speeches on behalf of the students were delivered by Tuhin Das (class 10), Wajangnaro (class XI-Science) and Priyanka Das (class XI-Commerce).
Guest of honour, senior Monk, Bharat Sevashram Sangha (BSS), Swami Dhyaneshanandaji Maharaj, and Shrimat Swami Dibyanandaji Maharaj, in-charge, Bharat Sevashram Sangha (BSS), West Indies, also delivered speeches during the programme.
The school magazine “The Pranabam” was released by chief guest, Swami Hiranmoyanandaji Maharaj, while vice-president, BSS, Kolkata, and chairman, PVHSS, Dimapur delivered a word of blessing. Vote of thanks was delivered by BSS in-charge of Nagaland and Karbi Anglong, Assam, and also the secretary, PVHSS, Dimapur.
