Parliamentary secretary for urban development, Zhaleo Rio on March 12 said he would emphasize on development of infrastructure in urban towns and the district headquarters.
Assuming office Tuesday as the parliamentary secretary, Zhaleo Rio said that various programmes were being undertaken by the department which includes municipal affairs cell and urban development.
He said basic services for the urban poor were being taken up by the municipal affairs cell including infrastructure development in various towns.
According to an official bulletin, Zhaleo Rio also expressed his desire to bring up satellite model townships in the state.
While stating that development of infrastructure was important, he also said that one should emphasize on maintenance and assured fair distribution of funds.
He further disclosed that he would take up any project or infrastructural developments only after making sure that there was availability of land.
Having worked as a bureaucrat at PHE department earlier, Zhaleo felt the need for improvement in the field of sanitation for which he urged all should work in coordination with various other agencies.
Stating there was a need to create awareness among the people, Zhaleo said that every citizen should be educated when it comes to maintaining civic sense and appealed to all for their cooperation and support and inculcate a sense of belonging.
He expressed gratitude to the chief minister for assigning him with a challenging task ahead, and being an elected representative from Dimapur, assured that he would make sure the commercial hub of the state, Dimapur, is not neglected.
He also said there was an urgent need to improve sewerage and drainages and sought the cooperation of all concerned in making the urban areas more developed.
Additional director, municipal affairs cell, Dr. Toshimanen Ozukum and his staff earlier called upon the new parliamentary secretary as he assumed office for the first time at the Civil Secretariat, Kohima.
