ACR tells NSCN (I-M) to exercise ‘tolerance’

Reacting to the reported exchange of fire between NSCN (I-M) and security forces in Soha village, Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh late Saturday, Arunachal Citizens’ Right (ACR) has asked NSCN (I-M) officials and cadres to exercise the “tolerance” and avoid “unproductive engagements.”

In a statement, ACR chairperson, Taring Mama said the effort would help in creating an atmosphere of durable peace; minimize ethnic hostility and install meaningful lasting peace in the region.

ACR also called for an urgent intervention by Forum for Naga Reconciliation to bring peace and avoid similar incidents in the interest of various tribal communities of the region.

Stating that it was deeply concerned with recent reports of a brutal attack on a Doctor at Soha village by NSCN (I-M) cadres for denying extortion money, ACR said such incident usually would aggravate the already complicated atmosphere of the conflict and tension in the region.

ACR said violence and disturbing responses towards the citizens of the state by armed groups “threatening the peoples” would not be tolerated by the Aruchalis.

ACR said the conflict between two factions of NSCN and security forces in the state have left many young widows and orphans.

The organization added that a number of state government officers have also been receiving intimidation/threats “directly or indirectly” leading to hampering of many development activities in the state besides creating tensions and fear psychosis among the common masses.

ACR asserted that such a situation has the potential of damaging friendly relation with Nagas as there were also thousands of Nagas residing in Arunachal doing business or missionary.

ACR also appealed the government of India to immediately “prevent and recheck” victimization of innocent Arunachalis and said the people will not allow the state to be the “dumping ground of the Indo-Naga political frustrations.”
