Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) CEO has asked all shopkeepers, business establishments and retail outlets in to use the plastic carry bags which are made up of “virgin or recyclable or compostable” plastic with not less than 40 microns with effect from May 1.
In a statement, DMC CEO Orenthung Lotha said the notification was issued in pursuance of Nagaland Pollution Control Board notification date March 4, 2013 on Plastic Waste (Management & Handling) Rules 2011, Ministry of Environment & Forest, government of India under the Environment (protection) Act 1986.
The CEO said it has also been observed that shop keepers, business establishments, residents under the DMC jurisdiction were in the habit of throwing garbage/kitchen waste/hotel waste, plastic etc. on the roadside/drain other than designated garbage bins even after lifting of garbage from the designated bins.
These he said were affecting the flow of drain water resulting in flooding that caused inconvenience to the people.
DMC requested all to extent co-operation and support to make the its task a grand success to make Dimapur “garbage free.”
