Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem (MTLT) RTI cell has alleged that there were ghost and bogus beneficiaries of the Accelerated Irrigation Benefits.
Programme (AIBP) 2011-2012 in Mokokchung district. The cell also claimed that Mokokchung Town was reeling under acute scarcity of water.
In a statement, MTLT RTI cell claimed that one Lepjen, a beneficiary under AIBP amounting to Rs.3,26,100/- (Mokokchung sadar sl.no.18) was a “ghost beneficiary” while one Onen, also a beneficiary under AIBP amounting to Rs.17,04,400/- (under Mokokchung sadar sl.no.28) was a bogus beneficiary.
The cell said the former was non-existent and alleged the latter was withdrawing money without actually doing any work on the ground.
With regard to the PHED, MTLT RTI cell questioned where the allocated amount of Rs.1,42,73,992/- (one crore forty two lakh seventy three thousand nine hundred ninety two) during 2010-11 and 2011-12 actually went.
In a reply to questioned under RTI act put up by MTLT, PHED executive engineer, Mokokchung division, I. Chuba Aier said the amount sanctioned for maintenance of water supply distribution system during the year 2010-11 was Rs. 83,79,000 (Eighty three, seventy nine thousand) and in 2011-12, it was Rs. 58,94,992 (Fifty eight, ninety four thousand, nine hundred ninety two).
The executive engineer sails the present capacity of water suplly in Mokokchung Town was 2,96,266 litres per day whereas the actual requirement of the town was 3,87,840 litres per day.
On the RTI question with regard to steps taken up by the department to meet the ever increasing demand, I. Chuba Aier’s said that the department has proposed and submitted an estimate “augmentation of water supply project of Mokokchung Town to the 13th finance commission.
On the PHED’s claim, MTLT RTI cell wondered if the department was supplying the daily required quantity of water daily or not. The cell has demanded that PHED executive engineer to quit his job on moral grounds.
