Mokokchung has been facing power woes since one of the main power transformers (33/11 kv 2.5 MVA) was burnt Friday morning last. The situation is not likely to be any better for the coming ten or more days till the replacement of the transformer.
According to power department sources, the replacement of the damaged transformer would take at least two weeks.
Since the day the transformer got burnt, there has been load shedding affecting almost half of the town and some parts of neighboring villages. The power situation has also affected business community.
Executive engineer, electrical division, Mokokchung Moa said that the damaged transformer would be taken to Dimapur and another one would be brought back to Mokokchung.
