GOVERNOR STRESSES ON NEED TO FULFILL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES
Padmanabha Balajrishna (PB) Acharya was Saturday sworn in as the new governor Nagaland at Durbar Hall Raj Bhavan.
Gauhati High Court judge Justice P.K Saikai administered the oath of office of secrecy to the governor.
After the oath taking ceremony, the newly sworn in governor was given Rashtriya Salute at the Raj Bhavan.
Former chief minister and Member of Parliament Neiphiu Rio and his wife, chief minister and his council of ministers, Speaker NLA parliamentary secretaries, advisors, MLA’s of various parties, senior government of officials, NGO’s, governor’s wife, family members and relatives of the governor and others attended the swearing-in ceremony.
Actions must be result oriented: Acharya
Later in evening, PB Acharya while addressing a gathering during the state dinner programme hosted by chief minister at State Banquet Hall, said “actions must be result oriented and purposeful” and stressed on the need to fulfill the duties and responsibilities. The governor assured to uphold the highest traditions of the office.
PB Acharya also said that Nagaland was not only blessed with natural beauty and landscape but also natural resources such as coal, oil, limestone and forest products. He however said peace was required for all round development.
The governor also mentioned that Nagaland has been progressing in human resources and going towards the right direction. He thanked the chief minister and the state government for organizing and the programme.
Chief minister T.R. Zeliang while welcoming the governor talked about the political aspiration of the Nagas and the earnest efforts made by the state government, tribal Hohos, civil society organizations and the church to persuade the Naga political groups and the Centre to find an acceptable solution to the Naga issue.
He exuded confidence that the governor would play a vital role in helping the parties arrive at a solution acceptable to both the entities and the Naga people.
The chief minister also dwelled upon precarious financial position of the state and said Nagaland was now expecting much from the “friendly government” at the centre under the leadership of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He said the only option for the state now was to generate its own resources through exploitation of the mineral resources within the frame work envisaged by the state.
The programme was chaired by chief secretary BanuoZ Jamir.
Host of dignitaries including minister from Meghalaya Alexander Hik, senior BJP leaders from Northeastern States, governor’s children and grand children, friends, Lok Sabha MP Neiphiu Rio, state council of ministers, NLA speaker, MLAs, senior government officials and others attended the programme.
