BJP state unit refutes report on merger

BJP state unit Saturday maintained that the three former NCP legislators- Dr. TM Lotha, Imtilemba Sangtam and Mmhonlumo Kikon- were full-fledged BJP legislators.
Reacting to a new report on July 18 over the issue of merger of the three MLAs, BJP state unit general secretary and spokesperson K. James Vizo reiterated that the three were received to the BJP fold on June 16 and later in the presence of BJP national leaders on June 28 at Niathu Resort, Dimapur.
He said the merger took place with the approval from the then BJP national president and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh.
Despite some political parties trying to politicize the matter by mounting heavy pressure on the office of the speaker, he said BJP was confident that the wisdom of assembly speaker on the issue of merger would prevail.
He also clarified that that there was no question of interfering into the affairs of any other political party as the BJP state unit never questioned the merger of the three legislators.
Meanwhile, BJP state unit has clarified that that whatever was expressed by party member Johny. G Rengma and published on July 18 was “purely on his own personal capacity/opinion” which did not reflect the state BJP’s views as its state president has not received any assurance from the Centre.
The BJP unit said it would not be accountable if things did not work out in Nagaland’s favour.
