BJP state unit reacts to state NCP statement

September 17, 2014 | by admin

Terming the NCP state unit’s press statement on the court order over the disqualification of three MLAs as “most absurd, BJP state unit Tuesday said even without going into legal aspects, simple logic indicated that suspension of or staying the Nagaland Legislative Assembly speaker’s order means the disqualification order was no longer operational.
In a press statement, BJP state unit president Dr. M. Chuba Ao said it also meant that the merger of the NCP MLAs with BJP was legitimate.
Summarily, the stay order restored the status of the MLAs as bonafide BJP members with retrospective effect from June 16. Dr. M. Chuba asserted it was for the speaker and not the NCP to decide the status of the MLAs. Therefore, the question of branding the MLAs as neither NCP MLAs nor BJP MLAs did not arise, he argued. BJP said NCP Nagaland should not undermine the office of the speaker, said Dr. M. Chuba adding that the contention that the MLAs were suspended from NCP was immaterial.
“They will be BJP MLAs till such time the final judgment is delivered by the Hon’ble High Court,” said the BJP state unit president. He said that the “distortion of facts by misinterpretation of the learned Judge’s verdict” was to mislead the public and it was clear case of contempt of court.
Dr.  M. Chuba said BJP Nagaland unit would definitely bring this to the notice of its advocate for necessary action.
Meanwhile, BJP Nagaland in its meeting held on September 16 has unanimously decided to field BJP candidate for the bye-election to 11 Northern Angami- II A/C.
