Chumukedima Village Council (CVC) has unearthed a forgery racket pertaining to purchase and sale of land under fictitious names within its jurisdiction.
The issue was brought up agter a verification appeal made by one prospective buyer which subsequently led to the arrest of four persons including three women who are now lodged in judicial custody.
The matter came to light following appeal made by one Azole Chakhesang to authenticate veracity of the land patta bearing No. 5657 dated July 15 issued in the name of Daniel Angami.
It was reproted that upon verification, the Chumukedima Village Council ascertained fraudulent land patta wherein the signature of the Head GB and the village council chairman were allegedly forged.
In pursuance to the complaint, CVC registered an FIR for further investigation. During the course of probe, three women- Azungla, Atula and Renu, all residents of 5th Mile, Dimapur were apprehended and thoroughly interrogated.
They women have allegedly confessed that they acted as brokers for 5% to 10% commission. They were later releases on PR/bail bond with instruction to gather information about the main persons involved in the case.
Based on inputs, the police arrested Kihito Chophy, son of Khehovi Chophy of Yehemi village under Surohoto in Zunheboto district.
Kihito Chophy disclosed that three women were also involved in fabricating of document and forged land patta for the purpose to collect money from innocent customers.
On September 19 the three women namely Bendang Naro Imsong (30), daughter of late Lipok Mar of Merangkong village, Ase Sangtam (28), daughter of Lithrongse Sangtam of Yangpir village, Kiphire, and Mahlong Konyak (36), wife of Nungsangzulu of Yenyu in Mon, were arrested from a prayer centre in Kohima.
It was learned that Kihito Chophy was arrested on September 10 in connection with other offences and was re-arrested on September 12 in the land forgery case. Police are in the lookout for the co-accused.
The three women are lodged in Sub-Jail while the lone male accused was reported to be in Central Jail.
CVC chairman Razouvotuo Chatsu has sought the cooperation of the district administration, police and the public to cleanse the town from prevailing unwanted activities. He has also appealed to all to consult the village authority particularly in matter relating to purchase/buy of land. The chairman has also appealed to the judiciary not to release the accused on bail till all the co-accused persons were booked and awarded punishment.
Further, he has appreciated OC Diphupar PS Kevisebilie Angami and C/N Phushito Sema, Women Cell UBSI Alila and ASI Anungla for their untiring efforts rendered towards the issue. He said these personnel deserved rewards from the government.
