Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organization (NVCO) has expressed appreciation and support to “Anti-Extortion Team Dimapur Police” for its commendable action against illegal collection of tax by several transporters/factions and the Karbi Anglong and Dimapur Transporters Association (KADTA) for its resolution against paying illegal collection. In a press release, NVCO president Kezhokhoto Savi asked for how long were Nagas going to fight against illegal collection of cash on highways and market places and unabated taxation? Asserting no one was above the law and every citizen had to abide by the law, Savi pointed out that as per Article 265 of the Constitution of India “No tax shall be levied except by authority of Law”. He also mentioned that the Nagaland government vide order dated 22.06.2009 & 08.12.2009 has banned collection of cash in the check-gates or in any part of the highways.
