A four-day on-campus training programme for rural youth was organized at KVK Dimapur from September 22-25 where 21 participants from Peren as well as Dimapur district have attended the training programme coordinated by Dr. Ebibeni Ngullie, SMS (A. Sc.), KVK Dimapur. The programme was jointly organized by KVK Dimapur, ICAR-RC for NEH Region, Medziphema- Nagaland Centre, NABARD Dimapur and Development Association of Nagaland (DAN).
During the four days training programme, participants were made aware of the modern scientific management practices in poultry like the housing requirements, care and management of chicks, grower and layer, principles of feeding in poultry birds, care and management of important poultry diseases along with the importance of record keeping and economic in poultry enterprise by Dr. MK Patra, Dr. Ebibeni Ngullie, Dr. Yhuntilo Kent, Dr. Rajib Kr. Das and Dr. Adison.
Practical demonstration on various aspects of poultry like handling of chicks and adult birds during physical examination and medication, different routes of administration of drugs, commonly used medicines in poultry, hands on training on brooding of chicks, management of grower birds, layer stock along with demonstration on poultry housing and equipments required in poultry farming etc were also shown to the participants.
During the valedictory session, Dr. Bidyut C Deka, Joint Director, ICAR-RC for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, encouraged the participants to take up poultry as an enterprise. He also thanked the NABARD Dimapur for sponsoring the training programme. General Manager, NABARD, V Chelladurai, in his address, encouraged the participants to form SHG in their own village followed by joint liability group which could be converted into producers company and get registered with NABARD to avail loan facilities and other government schemes for further development. He also told the participants about the Prime Minister’s Jan Dhan Yojna where the farmers could open their account at zero balance. The programme ended with vote of thanks proposed by Mrs. V Kenny Rhetso.
