
A two-day Kohima district philatelic exhibition (KOHIMAPEX-15) got underway at Little Flower Higher Secondary School Kohima (LFHSSK) with Athikho Chalai, Accountant General, as the chief guest.
Chalai, in his address, lauded the department of Postal Services for the effort in organizing the exhibition in a grand way. He said with the advancement of technology, the red coloured mail van or post boxes have decreased. He, however, said the importance and value of stamp and its collection should not be forgotten.
The chief guest encouraged the students and children to make stamp collection as their habit or hobby as the old stamps have become commercially expensive, which could even fetch upto lakhs of rupees at present and in near future. He also shared the history of stamp in the world as well as India.
Chalai launched the ICC World Cup-2015 Souvenir sheet and also inaugurated the philatelic exhibition and visited the exhibition.
Som Kamei, Director of Postal Services, delivered the welcome address and the welcome song was presented by students of LFHSS. Thousands stamps as old as 18th, 19th and 20th centuries and the old state’s stamp and others were displayed during the exhibition.
Later, there was letter writing competition.
On March 14, the closing function would be graced by Sr. Anna Molly, Principal LFHSS, Kohima, as the guest of honour at 1 p.m.
