Central Nagaland Students’ Association (CNSA) on Saturday carried out the ‘Black badge campaign’ in various pockets of Dimapur to express its resentment over Centre’s decision, declaring the entire state of Nagaland under the Disturbed Area Act and AFSPA.
The campaign, coinciding with the 69th Independence Day, began from 7 a.m. till 10 a.m. Volunteers were seen distributing badges at DC court junction, Clock Tower, Khermahal police point, Nagarjan, Purana bazaar junction and other locations. CNSA informed that the campaign which was carried out in a peaceful manner ended successfully. Around 20,000 black badges were distributed by 1500 volunteers, CNSA added.
Talking to Nagaland Post, CNSA vice president Nihoyi Kinny said that the protest was organized coinciding with the Independence Day to express the resentment of Nagas.
Maintaining that Nagaland was a peaceful state and that Nagas were peace loving people, Kinny said imposing such Acts was against the wishes of the people. He said that the public “willingly” accepted the black badges.
Kinny further said, if the Centre fails to adhere to the people’s wishes and its appeal, CNSA would be compelled to organize a state wide agitation. Others who took part in the campaign include– Ao Students Union Dimapur, Tenyimia Students Union Dimapur, Dimapur Lotha Students Union, Dimapur Sumi Students Union and Western Sumi Students Union.
