NVCO observes week long ‘National Consumers Day’

Along with the rest of the country, Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation (NVCO) also observed week long “National Consumers Day” by conducting consumer awareness campaign, street play, etc. while department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection (LMCP) has been putting banners in all the district headquarters.
NVCO through its media cell, stated that as part of the observance, it had submitted representation to Deputy commissioner on December 19, to look into the grievances of the consumer especially the citizens of state capital and for necessary actions towards protecting the rights of the consumers.
Some of the grievances included- excessive meat rate, unfair weighing and illegal collection of cash on highways at the police check gates. NVCO has asked the district administration to effectively enforce and execute the judgement & order dated 03.06.2014 passed by the Gauhati High Court, Kohima which debarred several unions/associations/federations from collecting cash/contribution at check-gates and on any national/state highways and not to establish office/sub-office/pay-counter/information centre on any highways which includes Petroleum and Land Transport Workers Federation of India, Dimapur Land Transport Workers Union, Dimapur District Autoriskshaw Drivers’ Union, Dimapur Motor Workers Trade Union, Dimapur Auto Riskshaw Owners’ Union, Dimapur Truck Drivers’ Union, Dimapur Truck Owners’ Associations and the Motor Workers Association, Dimapur.
Media cell further appreciated the steps taken by Angami Youth Organisation (AYO) in banning all those activities under its
jurisdiction.
