NFD extends aid to people affected by measles

In response on the appeal made by Nagas of Myanmar for assistance, the Naga Forum Delhi (NFD) extended relief materials to the people affected by the measles epidemic at Naga Self-Administered Zone of Northwestern Myanmar. 
The disease which broke out in mid-July spread across the township of Lahe and Nanyun, killed more than 85 children. Under the aegis of the NFD, the project “Transcending borders breaking barriers” completed on October 28 at Longwa, Mon, said Naga Forum Publicity Wing.  The relief materials consisted of rice, sugar, dal, tea leaf, milk powder and medicines. They were handed over to the Nagas of Myanmar by the president of NFD on behalf of the Nagas of Delhi and various cities and towns. Lok Sabha MP Neiphiu Rio, who also handed over the relief materials, said the initiative was successful due to overwhelming response of the public, churches across India and various students’ body. “Today we have broken many barriers, barriers of distance, border and differences within us have been triumphed over by the spirit of oneness and love,” said Rio. Under its initiative NFD had sought help from various churches and students’ body, public leaders and individuals.
15 churches responded, with Molungkimong Baptist Church leading the response, said NFD. Eastern Naga Students’ Union Delhi (ENSUD), Naga Students’ Union Delhi (NSUD) and Tangkhul Students’ Union Delhi (TSUD), Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Naga Students’ and various students’ body participated in the project. The team of six volunteers including president Rio headed for various destinations on October 15.  
Wanghring Anal led the team for Khonsa-Laju, Arunachal Pradesh where above 300 Nagas received relief materials. The team for Pangsha- Moklale Nagaland was led by Anthony Kaje and Karinpam reached 55 Nagas from Myanmar.  The biggest consignment were delivered at Longwa Mon, where 22 villages and above 100 people from Myanmar received the materials in the presence of local MLA  Pohwang Konyak, DC Mon, ENPO president, KU president, KU students’ president Myanmar and all NFD team at GB resident at Longwa.
