Khonoma Rüffüno undertook cleanliness drive on November 23 with the theme “Khonoma for a cleaner, safer and peaceful tomorrow”, jointly carried out by the Khonoma Rüffüno Kohima unit, Khonoma Rüffüno Khonoma unit, Khonoma Students’ Union and Khonoma Youth Organisation.
More than 60 young and old concerned participated in the cleanliness drive that covered all prominent resting places and picnic spots as well as the highway stretching over 20 kms from beyond the village gate to Dzüleke. Sacks of scrapped polythene, wrappers and other wastes were collected and disposed while glass and metal wastes were entrusted to a scrap dealer to be recycled.
Earlier chairing the start-off event, Rajuseto Chasie, president Rüffüno Kohima, introduced the purpose of the drive, while Asi Meyase, a senior villager, led the mass in prayer. Visier Sanyü Meyasetsu encouraged the gathered to give their best to make Khonoma a serene and peaceful village. Rokohebi Kuotsu, president KSU, then laid out the details of the work ahead.
Khonoma, the first green village of India, has continually upheld cleanliness of the environment and protecting its natural habitats and inhabitants. Khonoma welcomes everyone to be part of this vital initiative to conserve nature. Khonoma further appealed not litter but rather try to maintain the environment as was found in its natural state.
