Nagaland Governor, PB Acharya, on Thursday maintained that the horticulture department being one of the main departments for the development of the society should deliver goods to the people.
He said this while gracing the Silver Jubilee celebration of the state horticulture department at Capital Convention here as chief guest.
Acharya said that 25 years of existence as a department was more than enough for the department to take giant leap, have vision and a broadened the mind. He also said that the occasion was a time to take stock of the department’s accomplishment, vision and constrains.
Citing an old adage “where there is a will, there is a way”, the governor urged the employees to make the horticulture department one of the best revenue generation departments.
Asserting that India belonged to villages, the governor asked the department to ensure that the central schemes reached farmers and also to give preference and make good use of organic foods available in the state.
He said Nagaland was blessed with good soil and agro climatic condition that was suitable for growing various fruits and vegetables and urged the department to improve the popularity of local produce and encourage commercial production for trade purpose.
Acharya also lamented that in spite of the many rivers and ponds available in the state, fishes were still imported from outside. He said nothing was sufficient in the state and queried how long could the state depend on others.
Pointing out that there are 3 lakh graduates in Nagaland employed outside the state and making other states rich with knowledge, the governor insisted that a situation has to be created for those young people to return.
On the occasion, the governor acknowledged former department directors for nurturing and giving their best in developing and promoting the department.
