Zhavise Vihienuo’s demise mourned

Member of Ura Academy and former State Commissioner Bharat Scouts and Guides, noted social worker and veteran citizen of Nagaland, Zhavise Vihienuo passed away in the early morning hours of Sunday, May 7 at around 3 a.m. He was 98 and left behind five children and grandchildren and a host of grieving relatives. His wife predeceased him.  Late Zhavise was also the elder brother of late Rev. Deo Vihienuo and father to Thejao Vihienuo, former Registrar of Nagaland University.
Late Zhavise was accorded a befitting funeral held at the Union Baptist Church here Sunday morning in presence of several hundred mourners, well wishers and distinguished citizens. After the funeral service, the body of late Zhavise was taken to his native Chiechama village for its final resting place.
A renowned citizen amongst the Nagas, late Vihienuo in his early days was soldier in the Assam Regiment. He had also served under the then deputy commissioner CR Pawsey and also as a pastor, teacher and headmaster. He was also a founding member of the Indian Red Cross Society and was had also served as the state organization commissioner in the Bharat Scouts and Guides. He was also a government nominee to the Kohima Town Council and a member of the Ura Academy. Beside various achievements, late Vihienuo is also the recipient of the State Inauguration Medal. He had also brought out a book titled ‘A runa dze’– The story of my village. 
Condolences: Lok Sabha MP, Neiphiu Rio has expressed deep pain over the demise of late Zhavise Vihienuo, who passed away on Sunday at Kohima.
In a condolence message, Rio described late Zhavise as a towering personality with several achievements that spoke volumes of his contribution to the society. Rio also highlighted late Vihienuo’s achievements and the various capacities in which he served the Naga society, saying: “A short glimpse of his life indicates that he has made immense contributions to our society and in making of what is Nagaland today”. The Lok Sabha MP said when he met late Vihienuo recently, it was painful to see that he was too weak speak. Rio recalled that late Vihienuo, despite his ripe age, had a sharp memory and would relate the past incidents and historical events with photographic details. He was always concerned for the people’s welfare, Rio added. “His contributions and sacrifices would be recorded for all time to come and remember him as one of the builders of our nation,” Rio said.
In his demise, Rio said it was a personal loss for him and the family as late Vihienuo had contributed for the society even till his last hours. “There is emptiness in all of us as we have lost a person who was a father to us and to many multitudes more.” On behalf of his family and himself, Rio conveyed deepest condolences to the bereaved family members and prayed to Almighty God for the soul to rest in peace.
Rio further conveyed his condolence to the bereaved family.
Visatsunuomia Krotho: Visatsunuomia Krotho has also expressed shock and sadness over the demise of R.Zhavise Vihienuo (98 yrs) and Virevo Tsükrü.
In a condolence message, president of Visatsunuomia Krotho, while conveying its condolence, prayed that God grant solace to the bereaved family members in their hour of grief and sorrow.
