Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation (NVCO) has extended its support to Against Corruption and Unabated Taxation (ACAUT) Nagaland in adoption of its resolution of August 25 public rally to demand from government of Nagaland to summon a special session of NLA to pass Lokayukta Bill.
NVCO press and media cell stated that Lokayukta Bill was important to check all forms of corruption, mismanagement and siphoning of public funds and immediate termination of all back door appointments made post June 6, 2016.
NVCO stated that earlier at the ACAUT rally held at Kohima on October 31, 2014, one of the resolutions adopted was to demand that state government constitute anti-corruption ombudsman called Nagaland Lokayukta Act to be passed in assembly during the winter session 2014 and to give teeth to Nagaland Lokayukta a CBI Branch office should be opened in the state.
In this regard, NVCO said it had submitted representation to chief minister on May 11, 2017 and since then had been urging the state government to set up Lokayukta in Nagaland.
Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation stated that it would strongly fight against the inclusion of “prosecution sanction” to Lokayukta Act as all were aware that Nagaland State Vigilance Commission has not been given an opportunity to work independently just because of the “prosecution sanction” to be given by the state government.
NVCO stated that Lokayukta was considered to be one of the most powerful institutions in the country and to curb the menace of corruption prevailing within the state. Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation has therefore urged the state government to set up a powerful Lokayukta in the state to curb corruption in an independent manner.
