PWC celebrates annual cultural day

Pranabananda Women’s College (PWC), celebrated its annual cultural day at the college campus on the theme “Share our similarities, Celebrate our Differences” here, on Thursday.
Addressing the students in a brief programme, PWC principal, Dr. Santosh Kumar emphasised on the importance of celebrating cultural day in educational institutions. He opined that such programmes encouraged students to cultivate cultural diversities while promoting cultural awareness and unity.
Dr. Santosh stressed on the need to recognise similarities as humans before focusing on differences.
Meanwhile, a folk dance competition was also conducted where Angami, Ao, Kuki, Sumi, Bihu, Chakhesang and Rengma troupes participated.
The Rengma cultural troupe represented by BA VI semester (Sec B) students emerged as winners while Kuki cultural troupe by BA IV semester (sec A) and Bihu Cultural troupe (B. Com) came first and second respectively.
It may be mentioned that the competition was conducted with an aim to encourage students from various communities to perform folk dances and also to inculcate values of awareness, respect and accommodation among different cultures.
The programme was chaired by Rosne Das and Jaibabi Devi while welcome song was presented by PWC Students Union followed by a speech from cultural secretary, PWC Students Union, Totivi Swu.
