‘Kargil Vijay Diwas’ observed

Nagaland governor, La Ganesan lauded the courage, patriotism and sacrifice of the gallant Indian army soldiers who valiantly fought the Kargil war.
A press release by PRO Raj Bhavan stated that the governor paid tributes to the soldiers on the 24th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas observance at Dr Imkongliba Ao Hall, Raj Bhavan, Kohima, Wednesday. The day was observed along with Kargil war veterans, Veer Nari/Next of Kin (NOK), army officers, jawans, students, CSO leaders and the staff of Raj Bhavan.
Speaking on the occasion, the governor lauded the courage, patriotism and sacrifice of the gallant Indian army soldiers who valiantly fought at the high altitude, snow bound areas of Kargil in Jammu and Kashmir to liberate the Indian territory from the Pakistani Army. He said the “Kargil Vijay Diwas” was observed to mark the end of Kargil war on July 26, 1999.
Remembering the brave warriors, Ganesan said, “The citizens stand in salute for the officers and troops who gave their today for our tomorrow.” He also acknowledged all the brave soldiers from Nagaland who displayed exemplary courage and patriotism during the war.
The governor said the great nation would continue to draw inspiration from the sacrifices of these braves hearts and their families and urged everyone to dedicate themselves towards the betterment of the nation. He also handed over the appreciation certificate to the Kargil War Veterans.
Briefed the gathering on “Kargil Vijay Diwas”, commandant, 1st Assam Rifles Col. SBB Sharma said it was observed not only as a testament to the unbreakable spirit of the nation but also to inspire the younger generation of national service and sacrifice.
Kargil War Veteran Sub. Chankhothu and Neiselie Kenguruse father of Lt Capt. N Kenguruse, MVC acknowledged the governor and army officials for honouring the soldiers’ contributions and sacrifices by organizing such a grand programme. The programme concluded with vote of thanks by SM IGAR (N), Maj. Gen. Vikas Lakhera.
The programme was also attended by Director General of Police (DGP) Rupin Sharma, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kohima, Shanavas C, DIG CRPF, director Rajya Sainik Board and NCC officials.
