Naga Tribal Union Chümoukedima (NTUC) has appealed law enforcement agencies not to grant bail to alleged drug kingpin Bahar Uddin at any cost and also not to entertainany person in granting bail to such a person whosesole interest lay in wrecking the society apart.
Extending deep gratitude to Director General of Police (DGP) Nagaland Rupin Sharma and his entire team for taking all the initiatives in arresting the drug kingpin and his associates on March 23, with coordination of Assam Police at Sonitpur, Assam, NTUC president I Nungsang Jamir and general secretary Kevisato Nguzhülie in a press release said Bahar Uddin’s rightful place was behind bars, never to see the light of the day again.
They insisted that a man like him who had no heart but greed for money and lust for personal gain in smuggling and selling illicit drugs to the youths and teenagers should not be granted bail whatsoever.
NTUC demanded utmost and stringent punishment for the untimely death and putting at risk the lives of so many youngsters by luring them to buy and consume the dreaded “sunflower” and other drugs.
Reminding that an entire Naga generation was already lost in the early 1980s when many intelligent and promising youth were murdered and almost annihilated by drugs, the union asserted that they could not now allow that to happen again, especially when the main culprit had been apprehended and put behind bars.
They said that Bahar Uddin, who was also the president of New Market Jama Masjid Committee, had brought shame and frustration to the Muslim community of Nagaland in particular and the entire Muslim community in general for selling “sunflower” and other drugs in the Northeast. NTUC stressed that such an act should be condemned not only by the Muslim community, but by the Nagas in general.
