With a view to improve sericulture extension and marketing system in the state besides updating the knowledge and skills of officials of department of sericulture, four-day core training programme on “Value addition & marketing of ericulture” was held at Dimapur District Sericulture Office complex from June 3-5.
B. Choudhury, Scientist- D, CMER&TI, CSB, Lahdoigarh gave the welcome address. Chandan Basera, Director of sericulture, Govt. of Nagaland as chief quest in his speech emphasized on the capacity building of officials for strengthening the extension service system so they can effectively adopt the improved technologies and market support to the silkworm rearers.
He also added that there was an enormous scope for utilization of silk in medicine, handicraft, pupae as food and other related sectors.
The eminent resource persons were B. Choudhury (Scientist-D, CMER&TI, Lahdoigarh), S.A. Ahmed (Scientist-B, CMER&TI, Lahdoigarh), Dr. Ramesh Mittal, (Deputy Director, NAIM, Jaipur) and Dr. M. C. Mishra (Professor, Deptt. Of Extension Education, AAU, Jorhat).
The highlighst of the programme included extension communication skill, improved technologies of eri silk, brand management of silk through geographical indication, designing and management of training and products, product diversification & by-product management in ericulture.
