A “blue print” for new civil aviation strategy in the Northeast has been submitted to the civil aviation ministry. Addressing the 60th plenary meeting of the NEC, union minister DoNER and chairman NEC, B.K Handique said that the “blue print” has already been submitted to the civil aviation ministry. “My basic thrust is to concentrate on operationalisation of all 22 airports in the area having appropriate capacity aircrafts and have trained manpower for all branches of aviation” he said. Handique also said Guwahati airport will be come a hub airport with setting up of hangars and an aviation training institute for the region at Lilabari. Referring to some studies in specific sectors, he informed that Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has been commissioned to study the Tourism sector to suggest inter-alia regional tourism circuits that can be developed. Meanwhile, Handique said to get the requisite approvals for setting up Regional Paramedical Institute at Dimapur and Regional Nursing College in Tripura, the process has been initiated by the NEC Secretariat. For Nagaland, three institutions are being proposed namely, Indian Institute of Information Technology under department of Higher Education, ministry of HRD; Advanced Training Institute under ministry of Labour & Employment and Regional Paramedical Training Institute with assistance from NEC at Dimapur, Handique said.
