Chief minister Neiphiu Rio on Monday said the Naga People’s Front (NPF) party understood the Naga cause, people’s problem, local issues at the grassroots level and the problems of backward people. Speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony of NPF Dimapur division office at Landmark Colony (PWD), Dimapur, Rio said NPF was able to survive as a regional government because it people knew it understood their problems and carried these to the Centre besides serving them with dedication. He said NPF has come a long way since the initial stage when it faced difficulties and even carried the burden of regionalism. However with the support of DAN allies and due to its goodwill and cooperative nature and support from party members, the NPF leaders have been able to achieved goals to be at the level of where it stand today, Rio said. ‘Today NPF stands as regional in character and national in outlook and now we have to act globally’, he said added the party has a long way to go. Further on the NPF Dimapur division, the chief minister said Dimapur is a cosmopolitan town and the miniature India and thereby urged the NPF Dimapur division and party members to unite together and fully participate and become the backbone of NPF central party. On the performance of NPF Dimapur division in the last general election, Rio said the performance was nil and urged the party members to fix a target by saying “Let us be committed to party principles, policies and visions and reach the doors of people and fulfill their expectations”, he said. Rio also expressed the wish to see five MLAs from Dimapur in NPF party in the coming general election. He conveyed his gratitude to Azheto Zhimomi, MLA Advisor, Co-operation and Sericulture for taking the bold decision to join NPF party.
Dr. Shurhozelie, president NPF and minister Urban Development, Higher and Technical Education on Monday laid the foundation stone of NPF Dimapur division office at Landmark Colony (PWD), Dimapur. Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, Dr. Shurhozeli said NPF party was treated badly for many years in the early days and even called as legal wing of illegal organizations and of undergrounds and also called as anti-India. “But truth prevails and India recognized the unique history of Nagas and the political movement”, he said. He further emphasized that the party will continue to strive for unity and settlement of Naga people and act as facilitator for the on going peace process to pave way for any settlement. He also appealed to the NPF Dimapur division party members to take the office as establishment of a permanent base of the party and to permanently set their mind and work to unite all the Nagas together.
