
Annual World Malaria Day (WMD) would be observed across Nagaland under the theme, “end malaria for good” on April 25.
A press release by National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) joint director and SPO, Dr. Kevichusa Medikhru stated that in this connection, directorate of Health & Family Welfare would be organizing sanitation drive in the localities/Ws/colonies of all district headquarters to mark the occasion. It stated that theme for the sanitation drive would be, “Think. Plan. Create. A Malaria Free Environment.”
It informed that the locality which undertake the best sanitation drive would be adjudged the winner of the drive with cash price of 30,000, 2nd place 10,000 and 3rd place 5,000 respectively.
The release stated that criteria was based on cleanliness of the locality, with sustainable implementation like installation of garbage bins within the vicinity of the locality etc. unclogging of drains, filling up of ditches and unwanted water collection sites in and around the locality, innovative ideas to prevent collection of stagnant water in and around the locality.
Further, the department has informed the youth wing/body of the localities is to be in-charge of the drive and outcome of the sanitation drive would be measured by taking before and after pictures of the sanitation drive.
By undertaking the sanitation drive, the National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme hopes to motivate the community to think/plan for a cleaner environment, which would ultimately result in a malaria free environment.
Meanwhile, the urban malaria department, Dimapur, would be holding ward wise sanitation drive competition on April 25 in Dimapur urban town area.
All wards/colonies have been requested to co-operate with the programme and for further information to get in touch with the department.
