Biotech lab for MGHSS Mokokchung

Mayangnokcha Government Higher Secondary School (MGHSS) which offers science, commerce and arts stream to higher secondary students has now been equipped with the much needed biotechnology laboratory. The new biotech lab has been established under the sponsorship of ministry of Science & Technology, department of Biotechnology (North East Region) and would inspire science students for research purposes.
According to DIPR report, a total of 88 higher secondary schools were benefited under this programme in the North East region. Nagaland state had sent proposal for five schools out of which three schools benefited in the first phase. It was learnt that Assam state took the lion share by establishing biotechlabs at 55 higher secondary schools followed by Manipur state.
DC Mokokchung, Sushil Kumar Patel formally inaugurated the laboratory. In his speech DC thanked professor Dr. Chitta Rajan Deb, department of Botany, Nagaland University for making all the efforts to make the lab a reality at MGHSS. He said that the setting up a new lab would not only benefit the students of MGHSS but it would greatly help science students of Queen Marry Higher Secondary School and Senayangba Government Higher Secondary school. He appealed to science students to take full advantage of the well equipped biotech lab at MGHSS.
Prof Dr. Chitta Rajan Deb made a presentation on introduction to plant tissue culture and biotechnology. He said the department of biotechnology under the ministry of Science & Technology has accorded priority to provide biotech development in the North east region and harnessing rich bio resources in the region which would immensely help economy of the entire north east region. 
Prof Chitta welcomed while welcoming teachers for training said he was ready to provide training free of cost. He insisted that rapid growth in the field of biotech has made it imperative to create awareness at school level.
The inaugural function was attended ADC Mokokchung Bendanglila, district education officer, Mokokchung I.Satemenla, teachers and students from three higher secondary schools having science streams.
