NPCC while expressing deep concern over the unrest in Tuensang and Kiphire districts, condemned the double murder at Shamator and the ensuing violence that occurred in the region. In a press release, NPCC president K. Therie alleged that the issues, which were not new but age-old issues, have escalated during NPF rule.
He also said that the elected members, who represent the people in these districts, were “fully aware of the inner root cause”.
“If they are sincere to provide peace and a harmonious society, there is no reason why they cannot find solution,” he added.
Considering the complexity of the issue, Therie said political decision and not merely judicial decision was required.
As per information, Therie said that the hon’ble members of the day have claimed that the issue was a family problem. “If so, they should have resolved without waiting for the situation to escalate to the present condition”, he stated.
When the members have failed, Therie opined that the government of the day should have the political will to decide and also to handle the situation with a firm hand.
He also urged the government to ban all private militia and if necessary call in the paramilitary forces to control the situation.
“We are all politically, socially and economically interdependent and our lands will remain interlocked for generations to come as has been for generations before”, he said.
In this regard, NPCC president appealed to all to grow peace in our hearts, saying this was the way forward to achieve lasting peace.
NPCC further said it would extend support, if the government brings any positive steps good for all the parties.
