
Three-day training programme on “Recent Advances in Production Technology of Khasi Mandarin” was held from February 8 to 10 for extension officers of department of Land Resources/Soil and water conservation/Horticulture/Agriculture and officers of all KVK in Nagaland.
The programme was organised by ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, Jharnapani, Medziphema in collaboration with ICAR-Central Citrus Research Institute, Nagpur under tribal sub plan.
Inaugural function was graced by dean, SASRD, Medziphema, Prof. (Dr.) Alemla Ao as the chief guest along with Dr. I.P. Singh and Dr. D.K. Ghosh, scientists of ICAR- Central Citrus Research Institute, Nagpur and joint director, Dr. B.C. Deka as chairman.
A Technical bulletin on “Recent Advances in Production Technology of Khasi Mandarin” was released by the chief guest.
In her inaugural remark, the chief guest addressed the different issues of Khasi Mandarin cultivation, particularly the declining problem throughout the state where farmers are very much discouraged.
Prof. Alemla Ao further encouraged all the participants to take advantage of the training programme and equip themselves of the recent technology developed for averting the problem in Khasi Mandarin cultivation particularly of declining orchard.
Joint Director, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, Jharnapani, Medziphema, Dr. B.C. Deka welcomed the participants and encouraged them to go back to the field and help the farmers with advanced technology in Khasi mandarin cultivation.
Dr. I.P. Singh in his introductory remark stressed on the need to introduce advanced technology like scientific nursery management and quality planting materials production in the state. He also informed that Nagaland is very rich in citrus genetic resources and soil-climate is very much suitable for citrus cultivation.
Dr. I.P. Singh said that best quality of khasi mandarin was produced in Mokokchung, Wokha and larger area needs more attention by extension workers to keep the plants healthy and productive.
The three days training programme consisted of different technical sessions such as production of disease-free planting material, integrated pests management, integrated diseases management, rejuvenation of old declining orchard, nutrient management, guidelines for establishment of new orchard and post harvest management of Khasi mandarin.
Resource persons from different field and experts delivered the lectures on all the different technical sessions.
In valedictory programme, director, Central Institute of Horticulture Medziphema, Dr. Lallan Ram appealed to the participants to be ambassadors of Citriculture in the state of Nagaland. Scientist (Horticulture) and Training Organizers, Dr. H.D. Talang delivered the vote of thanks.
