Aomeren is one of the many tent-house owners in Dimapur with a difference and he has been in the trade since the last one and half years.
However, when one discovers that he is a person with hearing and speech disability, there are many more reasons for appreciating the efforts he has put on.
Having acquired his school education from a school for hearing and speech disability in Bangalore, Aomeren has come a long way in not just to find employment for himself but also people like him from different socio-economic backgrounds hailing from different tribal families.
After getting a loan from NIDC and with support from his family members, Aomeren who hails from Chuchuyimlang village, Mokokchung and currently residing at Diphupar, opened a tent house at Duncan Bosti under the style and banner “Liberty Tent House” in the month of October, 2011, which is managed by his brother, Moaakum and Merithung Ovung, also with hearing and speech disability. Merithung is the manager of the tent house.
It is worth mentioning that the proprietor insisted on employing only people with hearing and speech disability and Merithung was appointed as the manager.
It has become an unwritten policy to employ only differently abled persons for Aomeren. Attending to their customers through sign languages and short message services, the customers are also all praised for the other two co-workers, Peter and Ninglumshang Lunglang.
When asked about how he ventured into the business, Aomeren without any hesitation scribbled into a piece of paper that what he has been doing could give a positive impact.
He wrote that the tent house and his efforts would be providing a platform to mingle together with others while educating the people about their “inner talents” which could spur self-reliance with confidence.
These three hearing and speech disabled persons also has plans to venture into wedding-planning besides construction, designing halls, stitching tent clothes and repairing hired goods.
