Border Peace Coordination Committee (BPCC/A-N), which has been effectively working in border areas- Sivasagar, Jorhat districts in Assam and Longleng, Mokokchung districts in Nagaland, extended its peace initiative further, when 24 of its members toured Medeluajan sector under Titabar sub-division in Jorhat district and Mithihe sector in Bhandari sub-division of Wokha district of Nagaland on Thursday.
The team held an informal peace coordination meeting at Mithihe village, attended by public representative from neighbouring Naga villages- New Amboto, Akahuto, Aghautitu, Old Amboto, Mithihe, Shevukhu, Tssori new & old and a total of 14 Assamese bordering villages hailing from 85 No. Tengajan and 79 No. Charaipani Panchayat.
BPCC (A-N) president, Bhaba Prasad Bora welcomed the gathering and thanked the members for coming together for peace building in the locality.
He reminded the gathering that conflict could not be solved through “gun point nor pen point but through heart point”.
GB of 85 No. Tengajan and 79 No. Charaipani, Mahendra Saikia, who was instrumental in liaising effectively with the surrounding Naga villages in his jurisdiction, welcomed the peace initiative of the BPCC(A-N) and assured fullest cooperation for expansion of this committee to this part of the Assam-Nagaland border.
He opined that extension of the same would not only be beneficial to the people living in this porous border area but would serve better governance for the government machinery of both sides.
GB of Akahuto village, K. Zhekiho Achumi wondered as to why they could not get acquainted with BPCC(A-N) for such a long time, when they too faced conflicts in recent times.
“We have been organizing friendly volley ball match every year amongst Naga and Assamese neighbouring villagers between men and women for the past couple of years, the venue of the match being arranged in alternate location every year” – said Paban Gogoi of Medeluajan, who is also one of the architect of this yearly volley ball mission for peace.
The match for this year is tentatively earmarked during the early December third week, where both men and women female team from every neighbouring villages in this border expected to participate.
Meanwhile, at the meeting, a BPCC(A-N) sub-committee has been proposed to be constituted in this sector. To this the house entrusted the neighbouring village leaders to forward the name amongst from their respective bordering villages both Assam and Nagaland.
