On the occasion of ‘Saleni’, the festival of Mao tribe, Pfosemai and Viswema village on Friday reaffirmed their 2001 peace treaty.
In an emailed release issued by NPCC, representatives from various organizations from Viswema village attended the festival to reaffirm treaty between the two villages. Besides, representatives from village councils, student unions, youth organizations and various organizations from the neighbouring villages from Nagaland and Manipur were also invited to the festival.
King of Mao tribe Pf. Kaikho invoked the traditional blessings to the two villages and the people who came to celebrate the festival.
Chief guest of the festival celebration Congress MLA and former President of Pradesh Congress Committee, KV Pusa in his speech said Naga society underwent two major cultural shifts in the coming of western political governance and the Christian religion.
He said the process of politics had compartmentalized Naga people within different political boundaries and the new religion that they embraced, had brought in an alien culture. But, on the other hand on the positive side, he said a Naga consciousness emerged. He observed that achievement of Nagas political goal as envisioned by early Naga nationalists appeared to be going further from reality. “The protagonists of our political struggle seemed to have strayed away from the path taken by its proponents” he added.
He also said the idea of being a Naga has become irreversible and it would continue to evoke social order until it finds a niche in the prevailing political system. This is why a political solution for the Nagas in which the Nagas as a people can have peaceful co-existence with other people without jeopardizing their unique socio-political identity is imperative asserted. Pusa further called upon Nagas who take pride in being a Naga to come forward to take up the challenge and help in ushering in a secure future for Naga people.
The congress MLA also lauded the efforts of the Forum for Naga Reconciliation headed by a Baptist clergyman, Rev. Wati Aier to bring all Naga groups to the reconciliation table vis-à-vis unity.
Pfosemia has already signed treaty with 32 villages from Nagaland and Manipur to forgive and forget the past ‘misdemeanors’.
Pfosemia had first made peace treaty with Khonoma village (Nagaland) in 1800 and the last treaty was signed with Viswema and Kezoma in 2001.
Interestingly to strengthen their bond they had opened a joint bank account having Rs.12 lakhs to be utilized for the welfare of two villages. It was in the year 2001 where Congress leader K.V Pusa donated Rs.1 lakh which has now amounted to Rs.12 lakhs.
