Banking operations were disrupted across the state Friday with the employees of public sector, cooperative banks, regional rural banks and some private sector banks went on a day-long strike.
The strike was called in support of the one-day nation wide strike initiated by United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) in protest against the banking sector reforms.
In Dimapur, around hundred bank employees first gathered at Hong Kong Market before the commencement of the strike.
The strike was peaceful however, many people were seen outside the ATMs waiting for transactions but had to return disappointed since most of the ATMs were short of cash.
Talking to this reporter, one of the bank employees said normal functioning of ATMs were affected as there was no one to assist.
In Kohima, Nagaland Rural Bank and Nagaland State Cooperative Bank with all other private Banks joined the rest of nationalized bank employees in the nationwide strike.
All the banks in Kohima remained closed.
