
Naga Mothers Association (NMA) while expressing shocked on the attempted rape and murder on one of its members on August 22, appealed to the state government to immediately set up fast track courts in every district, to address the alarming rise of violence against women in the state.
In a release, NMA said the slow legal system in disposing cases was the reasons, the sexual offenders and murderers remain largely unpunished, thereby encouraging other criminals to commit horrifying offences without any hesitation.
To this, it demanded strong measures to prevent any recurrence of such crimes. NMA also said the incident has once reminded how unsafe and dangerous for women to venture out even in our own land. It demanded maximum punishment to the perpetrator(s) of such beastly act. It said so long such culprit roam around our land, the women were not safe, whether at home or at workplace.
NMA further urged the fathers, brothers, husbands and sons to respect women, who give birth and nurture them. While stating that the organisation was against any forms of violence against women, NMA urged every mother to be vigilant and prayerfully stand together to free ‘our land’ from all forms of evil activities. It also conveyed sympathy to the victim and prayed that the Almighty God heal the wounds and for speedy recovery of the victim.
NPC lauds NMA
Nagaland Peace Centre (NPC) Kohima has expressed gratefulness to Naga Mothers’ Association for their valiant efforts in meeting the leaders of NSCN (K) at Pangsha on August 31.
In a release, NPC Kohima chairman N Theyo said NPC has also appreciated the willingness of the NSCN (K) leaders for giving opportunity to the delegation to meet them with an objective for resumption of ceasefire agreement with the government of India. The signatory said every concerned Naga was unhappy on the existing situation caused due to abrogation of ceasefire by the NSCN (K).
NPC further, expressed the hope that Government of India and security forces would look at the positive sign of the NSCN (K) by offering the opportunity to NMA and that any Naga NGOs who would be willing to stake their lives to work in the warring situation for resuming ceasefire and peace talk.
